What should you do?
Q: You are returning to port after a day of sailing. Ahead of
you is a channel marked by colored bouys. How should you
enter the channel?

A: To the right of the black and white bouy and to the left of
the red bouy. You can remember this by using the three Rs,
red, right, returning.
Bow: the front of the boat, the pointy end

Stern: the back of the boat and can also be called aft
Tips for the UNexperienced Sailor
Tip #1: Bring 3-4 days of pre-prepared meals when
galley (kitchen area) provisioning. They will really help
out when you get your sea legs or during bad weather.

Tip #2: If your boat has an open bathroom shower, like
the Aliikai, don't forget to remove the toilet paper first.
Sailors Got Jokes
Indubitably My Good Watson

Sherlock Holmes and Matthew Watson were on a sailing trip. They
had gone night sailing and were lying on the deck looking up at the
sky.

Holmes said, "Watson, look up. What do you see?

"Well, I see thousands of stars." "And what does that mean to you?"

"Well, I guess it means we will have another nice day tomorrow.
What does it mean to you, Holmes?"

"Well, to me, it means someone has stolen our bimini top!"
Although sailing as a means of transportation predates
history, sport sailing–or yachting–seems to have originated in
the 17th cent. in Holland. From there it was introduced into
England (c.1660) by Charles II, and eventually spread to the
American colonies.
